BIG Music re-releases 'Kaifiyat... a state of mind'

BIG Music, part of the Reliance ADA group re-released ‘Kaifiyat … a state of mind’, a tribute in the fond memory of celebrated poet Kaifi Azmi on his 6th Death Anniversary. Present on the occasion were Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar who along with Shaukat Kaifi, Baba Azmi, Tanvi Azmi & Kulmeet Makkar paid tributes to the great poet. The highlights of the evening were soulful renditions by Shaukat Azmi and Javed Akhtar. The audio book is a collection of Urdu poems recited by Kaifi Azmi.

The poetic career of Kaifi Azmi has spanned over half a century, with his revolutionary ideas influencing people’s attitudes. Kaifi Azmi was not a poet whose work was confined to the printed page. In his youth, he was an ardent trade-unionist and later became a social and cultural activist. He believed that poetry should be used as an instrument for social change and has written several poems against communalism, religious fundamentalism and for the rights of women. His best known poems are ‘Aurat’, Makaan’, ‘Daaera’, ‘Saanp’ and ‘Bahuroopni’ which are a testament to his progressive thoughts and vision.

“Kaifiyat is a very precious album because it has abba’s best poems recited in his own voice. It Is truly archival material and is doubly significant because its being released on his 6th Death Anniversary. Abba’s poetry has a rare combination of being revolutionary and romantic. My favorites are ‘aurat’ and ‘makaan’”, expressed Shabana Azmi.

Kaifi Azmi won the National Award and Filmfare Award for the screenplay and dialogue of M.S. Sathyu’s master piece, Garm Hawa. Kaifi also acted in Saeed Mirza’s award winning film Naseem. Recognized as one of the finest Urdu poets of our times, Kaifi Azmi is the most awarded Urdu poet of India. Just a few weeks before his demise, Kaifi was made a Fellow of the Sahitya Akademi, becoming the first Urdu poet to be honoured. He has also been awarded with the Padma Shri, Maharashtra Gaurav Award, Yuva Bhartiya Award, Delhi Government State Award and the prestigious international Afro-Asian Writers Lotus Award along with countless other awards.

Kaifiyat, which was originally released nearly 8 years ago, is being re-released in a premium pack, to meet public demand and requests by countless fans of Kaifi Azmi’s poetry.
