About Sarika

Light eyed, with delicate features, the actress Sarika stands out in the crowd.

Sarika was born on 3rd June 1962 in New Delhi, India. She was christened as Suraj. She is a Maharashtrian.

She started working in movies as a child and has been credited as Baby Suraj. She was mostly cast in negative roles as she didn't fit into the traditional roles with her looks.

She was involved with the director Sachin and later with Deepak Parasher. She married superstar Kamal Hasan in 1988 and they had two children, Shruthi Hasan and Akshara Hasan. Shruthi Hasan will be making her debut in movies soon. She divorced Kamal Hasan in 2000 and started working in movies again.

While she was married to Kamal Hasan she worked as a costume designer, winning the National Film Award for Best Costume Design for the movie Hey Ram (2000).

As a child, Sarika acted in movies like Hamraaz (1967), Balak (1969) and Haar Jeet (1972).

She played the role of Radha in Geet Gaata Chal (1975) with Sachin. Her other movies were Jaani Dushman (1979), Satte Pe Satta (1982), Razia Sultan (1983) and Santosh (1989).

Sarika re-appeared on movie screens with Parzania (2002) with Naseeruddin Shah and Parzan Dastur. It was based on a real story of a Parsi couple losing their son in the Gujarat riots. It won her the National Film Award for Best Actress. She followed this with Ipsita Roy Chakravarthi's Sacred Evil (2006) and Baabul (2006).

She was also part of movies like Bheja Fry (2007) and Manorama Six Feet Under (2007). She will working with Amitabh Bachchan in Shoebite which will release in 2010.
