This beautiful lady Dia Mirza was born in Hydrabad, Andhra Pradesh. Her father's name was Frank Handrich, a German National, and an Interior Designer by profession, and her mom, Deepa, is Bengali-speaking. Her parents got separated when she was 6 years old.

Her father passed away three years later after their divorce. Her mother then got married to Ahmed Mirza who passed away in 2004. Dia completed her schooling in Vidyaranya High School and in Nasr School in Hydrabad.

She was introverted and unhappy as a child, and it was her parents, especially her mom, who instilled self-confidence and assisted her to break free from the barriers of low self-esteem.

She started working in a very early age. At the age of 16, after completing her 10th standard, she got a job with Sriven Multi-Tech in Hyderabad. This job paved her way to modeling assignments with Lipton, Emami amongst others. With this exposure she was encouraged to participate in the 2000 Femina Miss India Beauty Pageant, which she did, came up the second runner-up and won three titles namely Femina Miss India-Pacific, Sony Viewer's Choice Award, and Miss Beautiful Smile. She went on to be crowned Miss Asia-Pacific on December 2, 2000 at Manila, making her the second Indian to win this award after a gap of 29 years.

She started her career as an actress in 2001 in Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein opposite R Madhavan. Though, the film was not a box office success, but she received a nomination for 'Best Female Debut' at the Zee Cine Awards.

Unfortunately her filmy career didn't really take off well. None of her films did  great business at the box office.

Dia Mirza launched her own production house Born Free Entertainment on Feburary 10, 2011. She started the venture with her close friends, actor Zayed Khan and Sahil Sangha. During the launch of the production house, the three partners made it clear that the aim of Born Free Entertainment was to give a chance to young talented film makers to display their skill. The three also stressed that their vision was to produce 'honest' movies that would deliver what was promised to the audiences.

Presently she is busy with her latest venture Love Breakups Zindagi which is producer by herself and her partners Zayed Khan and Sahil Sangha under her new production house Born Free Entertainment.

Mirza and fellow-actor Aamir Khan publicly expressed support for the Narmada Bachao Andolan, a group protesting the building of a dam. This aroused the ire of political activists from the Bharatiya Janata Party, who led a protest march against the actress.
